Nature Sanctuaries

Pender Islands Conservancy manages several protected nature sanctuaries. A sanctuary is special conservation area set aside for nature, distinct from the parks and trails we all enjoy.

Pender Islands Conservancy Association is the land title owner and steward of several nature sanctuaries. Unlike parks, created for hiking and other recreational activities, nature sanctuaries are set aside for wildlife and science-based monitoring and restoration.

Parks and sanctuaries are both essential on Pender Island but play different roles. Parks offer an opportunity to connect directly with nature through walking, hiking, observation and exploration. Sanctuaries give refuge to plants and animals that need undisturbed places to thrive. Both are acts of caring for this place we call home.
