Bird and Birding Activities in December

Updated: Jan 10, 2022

Winter Bird Walk at Hope Bay: Saturday December 11, 2021 9:30: Meet at the Conservancy Centre at Hope Bay for a refresher on Winter Bird Identification. Bring binoculars if you have them, but if not, we will also have a spotting scope set up on the dock to watch for birds in the estuary and surrounding waters. We we also meander down nearby roads to check out what forest birds we may find. All are welcome. Free.

The 121st Annual Christmas Bird Count, Saturday December 18, all day: Anyone can participate in the world's longest running citizen science project. To contribute, you can walk around your local neighbourhood, check out a nearby bay or shoreline, or watch your own backyard feeder looking for birds. You can choose what time and how long you wish to participate on CBC day. For more information, please contact Pender's CBC coordinator John Peetsma at cbc.bcpi@gmail.com.

Bird Activity bags at the Conservancy Centre: For the month of December we will have free bird-themed activity bags to pick up and take home. The fun and interesting activities will help children learn about bird ecology and conservation, and also help them to learn how to identify some of our local winter birds.
