Kelp Surveys August 2021

Once again, Team Kelp volunteers headed out onto the waters around Pender Island mapping the kelp forests growing along our shores. Volunteers mapped six sites using hand-held GPS and sent the data to our partners at Mayne Island Conservancy for analysis. The growing bank of data will be help increase understanding of the health and size of kelp forests in the Salish Sea and will hopefully inform various government agencies making decisions about development and conservation in the Gulf Islands.

Volunteers enjoyed sunny skies, good comradery, and great wildlife viewing, including a humpback whale who came by to say hello at Brooks Point!
