Leapers and Creepers: Helping Frogs and Salamanders Thrive in a Changing World @ The Community Hall

An Evening with Pender’s Frogs and Salamanders

Time & Location

Nov 27, 2026, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Pender Islands Community Hall, 4418 Bedwell Harbour Rd, Pender Island, BC V0N 2M1, Canada

About the Event

Amphibians are some of the quietest residents of the island, and some of the most at risk. Nearly a third of amphibian species worldwide are threatened, which makes them the most endangered land animals on Earth. In BC, 64% of frogs and toads and 30% of salamanders are listed as species of concern.

Ecologist Dr. Kristiina Ovaska will be at the Community Hall at 7 pm on Friday, November 27 to present Leapers and creepers: Helping frogs and salamanders thrive in a changing world. She’ll cover:

  • Which amphibians live on the Gulf Islands, or likely do

  • How to identify them

  • What’s driving their decline

  • What each of us can do to help them thrive

Admission is $10 or pay what you can. Hope to see you there.
