About the Event
When Islands Talk – A Geologist’s Explorations of the Gulf Islands 🌊🪨
The Gulf Islands are famous for their artful yet puzzling rock shorelines. What are those protruding ‘cannon balls’? What causes the rock to weather into caves, honeycomb holes and other weird shapes? How do boulders of granite end up on shorelines of sandstone bedrock? Where do beach pebbles come from? Geologist and storyteller Bob Turner invites us to learn some of the language of the Earth – the science of geology – that sheds light on these earthly marvels.
