About the Event

On October 4th, marine biologist Amanda Swinimer (a.k.a. “Mermaid of the Pacific") will lead us into the dynamic intertidal zone to discover local seaweeds. On this seaside walk and indoor workshop walk we will:

  • Learn about identification of a variety of local seaweeds

  • Taste local, wild-harvested seaweeds

  • Learn culinary uses of seaweeds, as well as the nutritional and health properties of seaweeds

  • Create a seaweed hand soak

  • Dive into seaweed ecology and the crucial role of algae and seaweed to the health of our planet
