About the Event
On December 17, teams of birders will scour our islands counting every bird they can see or hear, continuing a 122 year tradition that is now the longest running citizen science effort in history! In past years Pender birders have recorded over 90 species in a single day. We’re hoping the weather will be fine as the count will be undertaken on that day on the Penders, Mayne and Saturna Islands. Once you’ve done your count, stop by the Nature Centre at Hope Bay to warm up with a tea or coffee, and watch the bird count progress in “real time” via e-bird on our Centre computer! John Peestma is coordinating the CBC on Pender once again, so please contact him at cbc.bcpi@gmail.com to let him know if you wish to participate (this can include counting in a designated area or a feeder/yard count), if you’re willing to have another person or two join you during the count, and if you participated last year, what area you covered and if you are willing to do the same this year. If you are a novice birder you can still participate and learn; contact John at the above email address to get connected with an experienced birder for the day.
