KELÁ_EKE Kingfisher Forest fundraising campaign update

Less than 3 weeks into our campaign, we have reached our first fundraising checkpoint goal!

On December 22, 2021, the Pender Conservancy and Raincoast launched an ambitious campaign to purchase KELÁ_EKE Kingfisher Forest, a 45-acre property on S,DÁYES, North Pender Island. This land spans the shores of the Salish Sea, through a maturing Coastal Douglas-fir forest, upland to Gardom Pond and its associated wetlands. It supports incredible biodiversity, including over 100 bird species, and provides critical carbon storage and groundwater protection services.

To achieve our goal of permanently protecting this land, we must raise $2.18 million over 18 months. Our first fundraising checkpoint was to match a $75,000 donor pledge by Jan. 10, 2022—and thanks to overwhelming community support, we did it! That means we’re already $150,000 closer to our goal, all thanks to your generosity!

But we’ve still got a long road ahead. Every donation helps us reach our final goal of securing the protection of KELÁ_EKE Kingfisher Forest—itself one step toward enhanced protection of endangered Coastal Douglas-fir forests and wetland ecosystems in the Gulf Islands.
