About the Event
Join us for morning birding at Magic Lake, where pied-billed grebes, purple martins, northern flickers and Anna’s hummers love to hang out. Noted local naturalist, Dave Manning, will join us to share some wonderful stories, knowledge and humour, as we scan the lake for inhabitants and creatures stopping over on their way to other places.
From Magic Lake we’ll carpool to scenic Oaks Bluff and hike up to meet Janine, a wildlife biologist conducting research for SIMRES and Raincoast Conservation Foundation. Janine will share stories about watching over the Vessel Restricted Zone while keeping an eye out for whales and other interesting marine mammals. She’s geared up with some cool high-tech nature-friendly equipment that we’ll learn more about.
A highlight will be hopefully catching sight of a grey-headed vulture youngster that has fledged from the nest cave somewhere below us, entering its first year on the planet. Noisy peregrine falcons…
